Gypsy Time (Part 1)

Gypsy Time (Part 1)
He sat in the park
Preoccupied by the wall
No opinion ‘bout this or that
Or some banker’s call
So we grabbed a cab
Just to give it a stab
Shake the tree
Find out if it was worth the fall
In gypsy time
Before he could see
The part played straight
And told us what it should be
There was no road home
Where they’d leave us alone
In gypsy time
Before we knew how to breathe
He slept in the park
Preoccupied by the street
Felt something was wrong
And someone should catch some heat
So we wheeled and dealed
See what we could feel
Close the loop, find all the ways to cheat
In gypsy time
Before he could heal
It all went sideways
All messed up in the deal
And there was no place safe
And nothing safe to say
In gypsy time
Before we knew it was real
In that nomad life
In the no man’s land
On the knife edge of what could be
When the myth blew down
Out of the land of the free
Then the cops came down
To retake the town
For the front runner’s speaking fee
That cold grey rain
Made him want to moan “Why me?”
He came back to the park
Now occupied by the facts
Something needed to break
To get some sanity back
So he blamed the game
Gave it all a new name
Tear it down
Put it on a new track
In gypsy time
Before we could bleed
In gypsy style
We did the deed
And the way to play
Matched the state of the day
In gypsy time
Before we could bleed

Second with No Dream
05:11

Second With No Dream
It’s a bloody black morning
On a Friday night
He slipped
On his way to the fight
Wrong road
That second brother don’t sleep
And it smelled like rain
When the river went dry
There was no hope
In a cloudless sky
Long odds
For his Father to keep
I sat in the room
Stared out the door
Tagged and bagged
And wired to the floor
And he was first
To cross the stream
Third one
That made it seem
Like he was
Second with no dream
Well the flowers bloomed
While the mother’s wailed
Hitch hikin’
On that glory trail
No rides
To get him into town
But the lights looked
So damn bright and cold
Siren call
For the dull and the bold
Long way
From his Father’s crown
I sat in the room
Stared up at the sky
Torn and worn
With really nothing else to try
And he was first
To cross the stream
The third one
That made it seem
Like he was second
With no dream
In the final chapter
Of the second verse
In the middle stanza
Of the brother’s curse
He whispered
I’m not gonna go
So in the final reading
Of the third one’s will
The mother shook
She’d had her fill
Long time
Before the Father’d show
And he was first
To cross the stream
The third one
That made it seem
Like he was second
With no dream

The Tinker Ball
04:15
|

The Tinker Ball
The gutter looked good
As Mickey lay down
No rest
Those wicked words bounced around
So Daisy and Donald
As Nancy and Sid
Tied off
And nodded out off the grid
And they never were that cool
And they never got the call
To come down off that grey painted wall
So they flipped off their false god
And his government job
And threw off the chains of their cel at
The Tinker Ball
Run, Bambi, run
Was the cry on the street
Unrest
When some underground dwarves got beat
And Goofy got tagged
As the Queen’s mastermind
Ratted out by the mouse
Underlined
They never were that smart
And they never had the balls
For the good fight to storm the walls
So they flipped off their false god
With his agency files
They fell on the sword of his pen at
The Tinker Ball
Sleeping Beauty woke up
As the Prince passed out
The end of the fable
Left no doubt
That Minnie had left
But the Queen still reined
The end of the Kingdom
In Walt’s brain
They were never really real
It was never really true
That world ever existed at all
So they flipped off the only god
They ever really knew
And fell to their knees on the last of
The Tinker Ball

In My Name
06:25
|
|||
In My Name
There were candles in the field
As you dined for the last time
What did you feel
What did I say
The machinery hummed
As they poured through the door
Why did they come
What did they think they’d see
And they locked the door
As if you’d fly
Our eyes were glued
To the consequences of that lie
As they strapped you to the table
Asked why
In my name, in my name
There were stars on the tops of buildings
As we prayed
What did you see
What did we do
That nightmare plumbing
Began to dance its last waltz
Some fancy last steps
You finished the song
And they locked the door
Like they thought you’d give it a try
As we closed our eyes
And waited for it all to go by
And they hung you out to dry
Asked why
In my name, in my name
As the candles all sputtered out
And we opened our eyes
You didn’t say a word
We didn’t hear a thing
And the stars fell
After you shot across the sky
We did it again
We did it again
Then you opened the door
Invited us all to fly
We stared slack jawed
As your mother started to cry
The hearse rolled out of the gate
Never asked why
In my name, in your name, in our name

Saul's Wait
05:25
|
|||
Saul’s Wait
Saul’s Gate
And David stares down from the ledge
I don’t know how the judges wait for me
Paul’s road
As the tax men watch from the edge
Blinded by
White noise
White light
White heat
I gotta get down
To the prophet to see
‘Bout his Chinese guitar
In a skeleton key
For me
He’s gonna have angels
And Isaiah to sing harmony
Sarah’s home
As she climbs out of an empty car
Where’s the man
Supposed to make it all whole
She calls Ruth
The one who was rumored to be so hard
She wasn’t strong
She was just God damn cold
I gotta get down to the prophet to see
‘Bout his spiritual plan
For my mind to be
Real free
He’s gonna have angels
And Isaiah to sing harmony
There’s questions ‘bout everything
And there’s problems we take to the King
But I found out answers might not be my thing
Saul waits
For a better answer from his kid
He don’t know how we got so far so fast
And the Prodigal Son
Who turned his back on his first place bid
Guess it’s hard to pray for
Both the first and the last
I gotta get down to the prophet to see
“Bout his alternate titles
To bring the world
As it should be
He’s gonna have angels
And Isaiah to sing harmony
They’ll sing for me

Through Doors
04:26
|
|||
Through Doors
Dark nights
Dark deeds in her hands
Dark rooms
Dark souls fall where they stand
As she tries to see the light
She once again picks herself up
Off the floor
A vision briefly seen
Through doors
Grey dawn
Grey clouds whip her face
Grey rain
Grey shadows call her to grace
As she strains to see your light
While I strain to see
Just a little bit more
A truth sometimes heard
Through doors
It’s some early weekend questions
To a late night Sunday crowd
And she lined her pockets with telephones
For when the answer got too loud
When she saw it finally whispered
My God
So she professes her faith in a chat room
Where nothing thunders back
And nowhere’s where the telephone rings
And the door reflected back
When cracked her open holy
Dear Lord
Cold light
In the cold glare of day
Cold sight
Cold words fall where they may
And she can’t deny the light
And I can’t deny it picked me up
Off the floor
Redemption lost and gained
Through doors

Gypsy Time (Part 2)

|

Gypsy Time (Part 2)
Nothing is promised to those whose eyes
Are fixed
On the promise of those who can’t cry
And the time that we got is the time we steal
For now
It’s time we try to make real
So his ink stained hands
Couldn’t get it all down in the book
And the history teacher
Couldn’t get him off the hook
That we honestly couldn’t get honest
‘Bout it all beneath
In gypsy time
Before we knew how to see
In gypsy time
Before we could breathe
The news came hard and it came real dear
We thought
We better get it while he’s still here
Take another step take the leap out loud
Step down
Step away from the crowd
So getting it right and
Losing it all in one day
The third one in started
Following what they say
The stock broker’s doctor
Told us ‘bout our brother’s deal
In gypsy time
Before we knew how to feel
In gypsy time
Before it got real
Now the promise is given to those whose eyes
Are fixed
On the promise of those who try
And the time that we get is a gift of Grace
For all time
Given in that place
So his ink stained hands
Finally wrote the final page
Had his final say
And just walked off the stage
And you’d honestly said
All the things that you had to say
In gypsy time
For just one more day
In gypsy time
We only had the day
In gypsy time
Just for today
